Title: Cassiopea A
Autor: Cecilia Payne (1900-1979)
Cecilia Helena Payne, in 1975 proposed her most curious work in the field of stars. On that date, Scientific American magazine published on its cover a photograph of a supernova called Cassiopeia A, taken with X-rays by researchers at MIT in
Massachusetts.
Cecilia embroidered the constellation in cross-stitch with great precision and with the same patience she had used years before to discover the secrets of the stars as an astronomer and astrophysicist. To do so, this image was recreated on paper using the most powerful civilian computer in existence. Thus, a first pattern was produced in which the different colors were
determined.
